ACTNews, LOMBOK – Eid-ul-Adha is only a few days away. For some, it is the day where we feast on fresh meat. It is a noble day where Muslims around the world celebrate with joy. They eat the qurbani meat with their family. But what about our brothers and sisters in Lombok? Can they enjoy th qurbani meat after earthquakes have shaken the island and destroyed their houses?
These questions inspired Global Qurban (GQ) – Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) to share the happiness of qurbani to our needy brothers and sisters there. Based on the latest data, 318 have been confirmed dead, 1,033 are wounded. Additionally, the earthquakes also destroyed thousands of houses, approximately 22,271 houses in total comprised of 9,220 houses sustaining heavy damages, 723 houses sustaining medium damages, and 12,778 sustaining minor damages.
Global Qurban President, Rini Maryani stated that the Lombok earthquakes need to be addressed positively. For GQ, it is useless to curse at the calamities, but use it as a lesson to evaluate ourselves and a lesson to strengthen our brotherhood as Muslims. One of the ways to show our sympathy to Lombok earthquake victims is by sharing the happiness of qurbani to them.
West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Maryani explained, is one of Global Qurban’s designated target areas in 2018. The distribution coverage includes Mataram City, Central Lombok Regency, West Lombok Regency, North Lombok Regency, Sumbawa Regency, West Sumbawa Regency, Dompu City, Dompu Regency, Bima City, and Bima Regency,” said Maryani.
“In this emergency phase, a number of public kitchen have been set up in eight ACT disaster posts. Insha Allah, during the celebration of Eid-ul-Adha, these public kitchens will also function as Qurbani Kitchen. Delicious qurbani dishes will reach the evacuees in Lombok,” Maryani added.
The Qurbani kitchen is a part of series of emergency measures to make sure the earthquake victims are properly nourished, especially during the celebration of Eid-ul-Adha.
Last year, every regency and city in Lombok was reached by Global Qurban. The people, especially the underprivileged ones, can savor the fresh qurbani meat. One of the areas was Macan Village, Gunung Sari Sub-District, West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara whose residents were unable to perform qurbani due to drought.
“We are very happy. Hopefully next year Global Qurban can deliver qurbani meat again to our village, Guntur Macan Village,” said Marzuki, a beneficiary from Landungan Hamlet, Macan Village.
Global Qurban keeps enjoining the people of Indonesia to expand the benefits of qurbani, reaching those afflicted by natural disasters, like Lombok, and humanitarian crises.
