ACTNews, NORTH LOMBOK – Eid-ul-Adha in Lombok is filled with sights of people in their makeshift tents. The earthquakes that have been shaking Lombok in recent weeks have caused deep trauma to its residents. Their houses were destroyed, and they are still too afraid to go back home because the threat of more earthquakes is still imminent.
By setting up Qurbani Kitchens in each post, Global Qurban – Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) aims to bring happiness to the people of Lombok including the women by involving them in the cooking process in the Qurbani Kitchens.
One the ladies in the Qurbani Kitchen is Runi (39) who is actively involved in cooking the qurbani meat in the Qurbani Kitchen near ACT Post in Tanjung, North Lombok. Runi admitted that all the refugees and he can at least forget for a moment the disastrous events that befell them.
“Although we have to celebrate in the evacuation post, we are grateful to be able to taste the qurbani meat and get involved in the cooking process. It’s enough for us to get rid of the lingering trauma,” said Runi.
In the Qurbani Kitchens in ACT Humanitarian Posts, the locals were working together to cook the qurbani meat. From skinning, cutting to cooking, the meat was processed into delicious dishes for the evacuees to feast on. According to Runi, many of them asked for Indonesian typical Eid dishes like satay, curry or rendang.
“Initially, we didn’t even think about having a qurbani. To be able to gather to perform Eid-ul-Adha prayer was already a great blessing for us, let alone to be able to eat qurbani meat,” Runi added.
She admitted that she couldn’t celebrate Eid with her extended family. Usually, she visits her parents’ house on Eid. This year, however, was different, since her mother was also evacuated in Bayan, North Lombok.
“It’s rather sad to think about it. Usually I visit my mother, but this year I didn’t. It’s not too far to get to Bayan, but we are still afraid to travel a long distance,” said Runi.
She is grateful and tried to get the wisdoms behind the calamities. “Although I’m not with my extended family, I have many neighbors here and its quite cheerful. Thank you all. Thank you Global Qurban for the qurbani meat. It has been a blissful Eid despite the situation,” said Runi.
