ACTNews, GUNUNGKIDUL – Eid-ul-Adha 1439 is in few weeks. Eid-ul-Adha 2018 will fall on August 22nd 2018. Like in the previous years, Eid-ul-Adha is something that many Muslims look forward to, including those in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY).
The two Islamic holidays are about celebration of happiness. Unlike Eid-ul-Fitr where people travel back to their hometowns, Eid-ul-Adha is about sharing the meat of sacrificial animals to the needy.
The story about the distribution of the qurbani meat to the people came from many regions throughout Yogyakarta. A year ago, in September 2017, Global Qurban – Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) team recorded a story of the qurbani meat distribution to the needy.
Qurbani on the mountain in Gunungkidul
On that day, in the first week of September 2017, ACT DIY team has finished the distribution of the qurbani meat on the mountain in Gunungkidul Regency. Supported by Masyarakat Relawan Indonesia (MRI) volunteers, the qurbani packages were brought to underprivileged regions throughout Gunungkidul Regency.
As many as 150 goats were sacrificed and their meat was distributed to 3,000 beneficiaries. 11 sub-districts received the qurbani packages from Global Qurban: Semin, Karangmojo, Ngawen, Paliyan, Pathuk, Panggang, Tanjungsari, Girisubo, Tepus, Saptosari and Rongkop sub-districts.
Giyarti, one of the recipients, couldn’t hide her happiness. She expressed her gratitude and best wishes to Onny Leo of Global Qurban – ACT DIY.
“Alhamdulillah, it is the first qurbani to be held atound here. Hopefully it will continue next year. There’s nothing we can do to repay this kindness. May Allah give you all the best rewards,” said Giyanti in early September 2017.
Agus Budi Hariyadi, the Branch Manager of ACT DIY, explained that the goats sacrificed last year were bred in the Community-Based Livestock Barn in Pakem sub-district, Sleman, DIY.
Global Qurban’s mechanism brings benefits not only to the recipients but also the livestock breeders. “It aims also to empower the society. The livestock breeders also receive the blessings of qurbani when their livestock is brought by ACT-DIY at a decent price,” explained Agus Budi Hariyadi.
Qurbani distribution for Yogyakarta expands
To improve the qurbani service this year, this year’s qurbani in Yogyakarta will bring more blessings. Global Qurban will prepare more livestock for Yogyakarta in Eid-ul-Adha 2018.
“There is an increase of target countries in 2018. The distribution of the qurbani meat will reach up to 45 countries, including new target countries like Afghanistan, Senegal, Guinea, Tunisia, Egypt and Maldives. Meanwhile, the qurbani distribution in Indonesia will reach 265 municipalities and regencies throughout Indonesia,” said Hariyadi.
For Yogyakarta, Hariyadi explained that the qurbani distribution targets underprivileged families in remote areas far away from urban regions, as well as the residents of ACT-supported villages, including those afflicted by mount Merapi eruption in 2010.
“Insha Allah, this year, ACT DIY will distribute 500 goats raised in the Community-Based Livestock Barn in Blora regency. They will be sacrificed by the volunteers and the locals to be distributed to the neediest people throughout Yogyakarta,” said Hariyadi.
Eid-ul-Adha is ahead of us. The happiness and blessings of this occasion shall expand along with Global Qurban’s excellent service since 2011.
Hariyadi explained about three advantages that Global Qurban brings forth: empowerment advantage, economic advantage, and equalization advantage.
“Because the qurbani animals that will be distributed will not only reach areas in Yogyakarta, but also other areas throughout Indonesia as well as disaster-hit and conflict-ridden areas throughout the world,” he concluded.
